Forest

Forest made one of my favorite mixes of all-time. I bought it for $5 at a 'Skate Laws' show at the Lager House. Played it out- until my tape player broke. Best part about the mix was the recurring themes: trumpeting elephants, conga drums, boisterous bass lines... weaving across the transitions. This was no ordinary mix. More of psychedelic circus act on tape. There were gorgeous tripped-out tracks, dusty R&B stomps and garage cuts. There was glam, there was more. But it all worked. It takes a sensitive ear to weave such an eclectic garment. Three cheers for Forest!

Help welcome Forest once again to Detroit as he presents "The Whip!" with Richie Wohlfeil at the Painted Lady in Hamtramck. Wednesday, 11/24 at 10pm. Sure to please!

David Byrne is in town right now working on a film. It sounds like he caught a pretty good whiff of the beautiful chaos that goes on here this past Saturday. He wrote at length about what he came across, the circumstances of the city, & where things might go from here. In the end he had this to say:
"Like D’Mongo’s, there are lots of hidden jewels in this town ...one can imagine that if the city center here can become more of the focus then a much smaller town with vibrant life might emerge."

Porktown Sausage Pizza @ Supino!!!!!!

Just got back from a quick downtown lunch with Brian Merkel at Supino. Brian and John Schoeniger are the masterminds behind the tasty Porktown Sausage Co that's been on the rise lately.

So far they've packed sausages for the Burton Theatre Cinema bbq's and a few fundraisers. Mocad's 'Home Slice' event is up next for them at Eastern Market, 10/8.

Today marked the debut of the 'Welcome to Porktown Pizza'. Super duper tasty. Especially with those delicious cherry peppers.

I pitched in to help ring up a few coils over at Merkel's house a few months back when they were first experimenting with their meat. Lots of fun. It felt like we were part of a medieval guild, except without all the sobriety.

Congrats Gents! Keep on pushing! (ok, I'll stop with the homo-erotic meat references).
